Deception…

By September 14, 2014August 30th, 2022Devotional

Janet and I are in the process of doing some decorating in our home. We have a number of new pictures on the walls and are in the process of trying to purchase a rug for a small room that we spend quite a bit of time in – a small hearth room where we watch television each evening.

Anyway, we found a suitable rug and Janet has been after me to order it online. Tonight, because I couldn’t find the appropriate color online, I called the order line and, after more than 30 minutes, finally got through the process of placing the order. I supplied my credit card number after the price was finalized and was told to expect an email confirmation later in the evening. Well, as I was hanging up the phone, the email came in and the receipt showed that they charged me $140 more than I was told on the phone.

To say the least, I was livid. All that time, and an oral confirmation to boot, and then to receive something that was so wrong had me really tied up in knots. I called right back and was told that there was nothing they could do about the order. I requested that they either cancel the order or refund the excess charge, all to no avail. They told me that department only handled orders and since I wasn’t calling to place another order, there was nothing they could do.

In other words, in the morning, I can call customer service if I want to, but there is no guarantee that they will make the change to the charge. I have to say that I am furious about this – I just can’t stand poor customer service. On top of all this, I feel stupid. I was asked to wait on hold and then answer a few survey questions at the conclusion of my order transaction. I gave pretty good endorsements for the way I had been treated but little did I know that they were trying to bait me and charge me 30% more than my bill should have been.

Furthermore, I don’t understand how they can refuse to assist me with my complaint when it was less than 60 seconds from the time the phone was hung up until the time I called back. But regardless, I didn’t get any customer satisfaction. And I’m sure that it will be the last time that I will trust that company – period…

Thank goodness God isn’t like that. You never have to worry about whether God is trustworthy and true. He is the same today as He was centuries ago and is the same as He will be centuries from now. And you don’t have to wait until 7:00 am on a Monday to get in touch with God. In fact, you don’t even have to dial the phone – He’s always there and there is no waiting on hold or having to call a different call center. Nope – each of us has a direct pipeline to the Father, and His Son.

I guess what I need this evening is God’s peace until I can get this handled in the morning. How frustrating!!! So it is appropriate that the verse for tonight reflects advice that I need to follow for myself tonight. We are told, in Phil. 4:5-7, “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Boy – do I need that tonight.

My encouragement this evening is that God is waiting for us to turn to Him with our problems and concerns. Even if they seem trivial to us they are important to God. My prayer is that you can have divine peace and that you will keep things in perspective. That’s something that I didn’t do so well this evening. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
