I am sitting in my easy chair in our library getting ready to write this short post. It is the end to a very long day. It started this morning in Williamsburg when Andrew and I loaded up the car with all the things that were being brought back with us from Janet’s folks. We barely had enough room for everything but Andrew and I are great packers and, sure enough, we got it all in the car – with enough room for the three of us to ride in comfort all the way home.

As we sat in the driveway, and thought about all the events of the past week, I started the car and the navigation system came on – silently waiting for the next destination to be entered. I pulled up the appropriate screen and pushed the button marked “Go Home.” A few seconds later, the onboard system took over, the route was determined and we were off. It’s almost like auto pilot. Just follow the directions and you’ll get to where you want to go. With each passing mile, thoughts of home became more real and the events of the past week started to move to the background.

It just seems like we have been in a surreal situation. It’s hard to imagine all that Janet and her sisters have been through this summer. But it occurs to me that Janet should take a lesson from the navigation system. Janet is a strong believer in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. At times like this, it is foolish to depend on yourself for strength and to know what you should do. Rather, the best course of action is to plug in your destination – in this case, your heavenly Father – and let Him set the course. Then, just follow the directions and He will make sure that you get home safe and sound.

The verse for today is a very simple one.  From John 14:23, we are told, “Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” Isn’t that great? You don’t even have to figure out where to go – Jesus and His Father will come to you and make their home with you. How cool is that? My encouragement this evening is that Jesus and God the Father can’t wait to make their home with you. That’s how important you are to them. My prayer is that when you are too tired and confused – or hurting too bad – to know which way to turn, the Holy Spirit will direct your steps and safely bring you to a safe harbor – home. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
