Insure, Ensure, Assure…

By March 7, 2019August 30th, 2022Devotional

I’ve been reviewing our first quarter bills for this year, as our company’s new fiscal year starts on April 1st. It will be the beginning of our 37th year in business and all in all, our family has been richly blessed. In anticipation of our year end, I review all our expenses, plan for taxes and look at revenue projections for the next year.

Although the business is different and distinct from our personal bills, it so happens that both our business insurance and personal insurances renew this quarter.

On the personal side, our homeowner’s insurance gets paid in early January, Then, our auto, personal articles and other major insurances are all due this month. On the corporate side, our liability policies and several other things are due in March as well. In fact, I marvel at how may different policies we need to ensure that we are are protected and following the laws. It seems every time that we turn around, another insurance bill comes through.

Oh, I almost forgot about all the healthcare insurance we also pay for. Yes, there is Medicare, and that is less expensive than our old corporate policy used to be, but then there are supplemental policies and drug policies and deductibles and all kinds of things to consider when making choices about our care. Insurance, as a category, probably is the number one expense we have month to month. I don’t understand how some people even make it – it is expensive to be properly insured!

Most of us carry insurance because we have to or because we want to have peace of mind in the event we encounter trouble – whether health related or as a result of illness. But for the most important thing in life, our eternal security, we don’t have to pay anything! Yep – we just have to accept the free gift of salvation to ensure that we will be in heaven for all eternity. That’s something that Christ assures us. Our verse for tonight affirms that promise.

John, the apostle and close friend of Jesus, reveals to us the words of Jesus in his Gospel. In John 11:25-26, we are told, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

My encouragement this evening is that we don’t need to purchase insurance to get to heaven. Jesus assures us that to ensure spending eternity with him, we just have to accept his offer of salvation. My prayer is that you will realize that the best things in life are FREE – that’s right, a gift to you from the Creator of the universe. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
