It was Good…

I’m still in Kentucky this evening and we had a full day of work. We started at 7:30 this morning after having breakfast at 7:00 and worked, other than a short lunch, straight through until almost 6:30 this evening. All of us were tired and although we intended to continue after dinner, everybody sort of crashed and we decided to spend the evening socializing and enjoying the chance to get to know each other a little better. Mind you, there isn’t much to do here – especially if you don’t hunt. There isn’t a store within miles and there are few distractions so it is a good place to stay focused on business.

So after dinner, several of us decided to take a walk through the area. There is a lake within a half mile from here and so we headed that direction. We saw a family of deer, several larger single animals and tracks that seemed to indicate the presence of a coyote or a similar animal in the area. After the intense mental work of the day, it was a joy to be out in nature surveying creation and all that God has made for us.

The scenery is great, the lake looked refreshing and I was mesmerized by the animals in the area. I’ve watched birds fly overhead all day through the two story floor to ceiling windows here at the lodge and I suppose I was more grateful than usual for the opportunity to witness God’s handiwork in the this place.

I won’t carry on and on about it, but all I could think about was the creation story in Genesis and how God created the animals on the sixth day. The verse for tonight is from the first chapter of Genesis – Gen. 1:24-25, “And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”

My encouragement this evening is to take advantage of the opportunities that God gives you to enjoy his creation – created as a place for His people to live while they are in this world. My prayer is that you will try to appreciate the magnitude of the things that God has done by sacrificing His Son for us and for creating the bounty that is all around us. Tonight, for sure, I once again saw that it was good! Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
