My Peace…

By May 1, 2018August 30th, 2022Devotional

Normally, I write on Thursday evenings, but tonight I am writing early. That’s because tomorrow morning I have an appointment at the hospital to have surgery for the purpose of repairing a severed quad tendon near my right knee. And I don’t know how well I will feel post op so I thought writing tonight was a better choice.

In fact, I sustained the injury a week ago last night while southwest of Chicago while helping my brother, Doug, prepare a place for our youngest brother, Ken. I tripped, fell and thought that I had merely sprained my knee – I was wrong. So tomorrow, after nine days of being incapacitated, I hope that I will finally be on the road to recovery. I’m not a big fan of surgery; and I can’t believe the outpouring of love and caring that has come my way since the accident.

I would think that peace about all this would come with faith, but for some reason, that just isn’t the case. There’s no doubt that the surgery is necessary to repair the damage but I can’t seem to get comfortable with the thought of the surgical process.

I know rehab will be challenging, with an anticipated six months or more of recovery post op. For some reason, at least right now, I can embrace the work that will be necessary but I have to get through tomorrow first.

So, simply stated, I am looking for peace… divine peace… the kind of peace that only comes when God is in control and He mandates it. The verse for this evening is a simple but important one. The apostle John tells us, in his Gospel, John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” That’s great advice for me tonight.

My encouragement tonight is that God wants us to trust in Him; and His peace is unlike any other kind of peace there is. My prayer is that I will experience some of that divine peace tonight and tomorrow. For that matter, for the next six months or more as I undertake this next physical challenge. And I pray for your peace as well. Thanks for your prayers and warm wishes! And have a great day in the Lord, grace and PEACE…
