The Ultimate Do-Over

By January 1, 2016August 30th, 2022Devotional

It’s officially 2016, at least here in central Indiana. We just finished watching ABC and the events in Time Square announcing the end of 2015 and the beginning of the New Year, 2016. I remember as a little kid that I figured I would be 46 when the ball dropped for the year 2000 and how far away that seemed to me at the time. Now, of course, we are 16 years on the other side of that benchmark and here I sit, writing my first post of the new year at the tender age of 62. Sometimes, the whole thing seems a little surreal to me.

And each year, I make resolutions about things I would like to accomplish. Sometimes I am successful – and other times, not… but one thing is for sure. Whatever happened last year is in the history books and we all have a chance to wipe the slate clean and take another run at the things that we maybe didn’t do so well last year.

In a similar way, God gives us the chance to have the ultimate do-ever when we make the decision to accept Christ as Lord and Savior of our life. And the Scripture is quite clear, in the book of Revelation, that God will eventually make everything new. We are told, in Revelation 21:5-7,  “He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.”

My encouragement tonight is that you have a chance to make 2016 whatever you want it to be. My prayer is that you will honor God in the process and make sure that your will is in alignment with His will for your life. Because we serve the Creator of everything good and He wants what is best for us… Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace… And Happy New Year! I pray that it’s a great one!
