Entering Rest

By July 25, 2013August 30th, 2022Lost in Translation

I’m back from Evansville and Dallas this week. In fact, I am sitting in my own chair, with Janet across the room from me, and I am just chilling out. Like most weeks, this one has been busy. It’s odd that this is the time of my life when I think I would normally be slowing down, even if just a step or two, but I’m not.

For the first time in years, I made the round trip to Dallas in one day and I have affirmed that I just don’t recover as easily as I used to. And I’m sure that many of you can testify to the same thing – as we age, we just don’t feel rested as quickly as we used to. One of the things I have found about myself is that I don’t schedule two big events back to back. I do much better when I have a day in between to catch up on local work between trips.

And when I do have to travel, I would rather go the night before and not have to get up at 4:30 am and be up 20 hours before I can rest. So tonight, I’ve decided to write a short post – because I need some rest, and I just want some personal time to enter into a time of rejuvenation with God.

So right to the verse of the evening – from Heb. 4:10, “for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his.” This verse directly references the fact that even God rested from His work of creation and it is not a bad thing to enter into rest – in fact, God requires that of us. That’s why the Sabbath was created, and it doesn’t have to be a Saturday or a Sunday. It can be any day of the week.

My encouragement this evening to to let you know that God is waiting for you to enter into His rest. My prayer is that you will find it as refreshing and joyful as I am this evening. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
