Into Fall…

By September 28, 2017August 30th, 2022Lost in Translation

The last several months have been a little unusual for this time of year. August was cooler than usual and now September has gone from hot to chilly all in the same month. As we travelled east during this month, we couldn’t help but notice the beginning of the change in the color of the leaves. Aside from that, when we returned home, we saw the leaves starting to fall off the trees here in central Indiana.

We have had a wonderful year of beautiful plants and a cutting garden in the back yard. The pots and urns that are planted have been awesome and it has been a pleasure to watch the garden grow. But the last several days have seen a change in the way things look around here. Sure enough, it is evident that fall is here and we are beginning the inevitable march toward the time of hibernation and winter.

We have a lady and her husband who help us with maintaining our plants. In fact, she is a master gardener and knows what vitamins to feed them and how different kinds of plants do well in certain areas of the yard. Well, this evening, she visited and I noticed that she was removing the summer foliage from around the front walk and flower beds. In their place, we now have the seasonal kale, mums and pansies. Yep, late fall and winter can’t be far away.

That’s the time that the earth starts to rest after the harvest. God makes everything new each year. After the excitement of spring, the phenomenal colors and growth of summer, the harvest of fall begins and then God will allow the earth to rest before the cycle starts all over again.

This year, we aren’t entering the time of harvest and rest all at once. It seems that temperature variances and inconsistencies will delay the normal chain of events. As I was traveling home from northern Illinois earlier this week, I was passing through the corn and soybean fields – watching the wonder of the fall of the year. Rather than take the interstates, I drove the entire way through the backroads of the midwest – and I loved it. Yes, it took longer to get home, but the smell of the hay and the color of the soybean fields made it all worthwhile.

Of course, I remember my grandfather teaching me about the changing of the seasons. And make no mistake, the fall is my favorite time of year. Needless to say, I’m getting excited about the next several months.

The verse for tonight is the one that I use this time of year. It is from Kind Solomon and his comments in Ecclesiastes. We are told, in Ecc. 3:1-2, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted…” My encouragement this evening is that God wants everything to rest, including His physical creation. My prayer is that you will enjoy what God has created for us and that you will revel in this upcoming time of rest and relaxation. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…

Great blog. Yes we do need to rest, and that is difficult for me. I am go go go. But your advice is well taken
    Thanks
