Still on the Throne…

By November 8, 2018August 30th, 2022Lost in Translation

Let’s face it. The last several months have been tough politically. It doesn’t make any difference which party you belong to, as tempers have been flaring and civility has pretty much gone out the window. Although things have been more confrontational since President Trump took office, things heated up quite a bit during the Kavanaugh hearings after the judge was accused of sexual impropriety years ago when he was a student.

The Democrats and Republicans chose their respective positions and, eventually, the FBI got involved during further investigations to see if there was merit to the charges. The FBI failed to turn up evidence of wrongdoing and the vote to confirm Kavanaugh proceeded. He was confirmed by a narrow margin – in fact, much narrower than previous confirmation hearings for other judges in the past.

The Republicans, since that time, have campaigned hard for their candidates in the mid-term elections held this past Tuesday. So have the Democrats and it was clear, especially in states such as our Indiana, that the close polls made predicting outcomes too close to call.

Ultimately, the Democrats regained control of the House of Representatives by a narrow margin with about 27 additional seats won – and the Republicans extended their majority in the Senate by three seats as of this writing. So we move forward into the last two years of President Trump’s term with a divided government – and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

In fact, the stock market loved the outcome – probably in large measure due to the fact that there weren’t many big surprises and the market was up more than 545 points the day after the election. Each party had their own spin on what the election meant for the country, and there is bound to be great discourse on the meaning of the outcomes. But whether or not the Republicans won, or the Democrats won, the truth of the matter is that God is still on the throne in heaven and has it all under control.

The Bible is quite clear that judges and governments were suggested by God to Moses and we are to honor those officials who serve in our government. There are popular verses, such as the ones that remind us to “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” but that seems like slim consolation when people are dissatisfied with the election.

And more important than the election is the fact that God is omnipotent (all powerful) as well as omnipresent (everywhere) and omniscient (all knowing). That means that He already knew the outcome and all the other factors that affected the election and things leading up to it. So we can be thrilled or agitated, or anything in between, but God is still in control and it is not our will, but His will, that will be done.

Our verse for tonight highlights the fact that all is well in heaven and God is still on the throne. The apostle John, the author of Revelation, lets us know that he has seen the throne of God and that, eventually, the things of Revelation will come to pass. He tells us, in Revelation 5:13, “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

This verse doesn’t leave any doubt about God being on the throne, does it? Not only that, but multitudes of creatures, all of them, worshipping God. That’s nothing short of amazing. Because that means Republicans, Democrats and every other creature in heaven, on earth and under the earth… My encouragement this evening is that it is clearly evident that God plans on all of us getting along – sometime in the future. My prayer is that we will all do our part to advance the cause and begin the healing process that needs to happen for our country to be on the way to reconciliation. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…

it would be wonderful if we could/would all get along. I guess we will have to wait for the future for this.
    Thanks
