You, Too, Can Have a Body Like This!

By July 30, 2013August 30th, 2022Lost in Translation

I might as well say at the top of this post that we are talking about weight loss tonight. Almost four months ago, Janet decided that she wanted to lose a little weight – and I mean a little… Those of you who know her realize that she really doesn’t need to lose any weight but she said that she would feel better losing a few pounds so she has been dedicated to this effort. She is now within 1# of where she wants to be – and she looks terrific.

I, on the other hand, am built for comfort and not speed… having fought weight issues my entire life. I have been watching what I eat, and to be fair, I have lost some weight, but I am frustrated by the slow rate that the pounds are coming off. I know that I should be patient and I understand all the experts who say that it didn’t go on in an instant and it’s not coming off in an instant. So I’ve settled in for the long haul and am continuing my weight loss program.

I was a little frustrated this morning. I mean, I have been true to the program and would like to see a little more progress. As I was expressing my frustration to Janet, you can imagine my surprise when a big grin swept across her face and she proudly announced to me, “Stick with it, and you, too, can have a body like this…” Of course, she was teasing me, but she does look great and I still have a long way to go – not that I want to have a body like hers…

I immediately went to our white board and wrote down Janet’s quote. I wanted to be sure that I captured it correctly for tonight’s post. I find that some of my best stories come from Janet’s escapades… But there’s another reason that I wanted to write about this topic tonight. That is because we, as believers, are promised new bodies by God. Yep – that’s right – Paul makes it quite clear that when we die and are heaven, we get an entirely new look for ourselves – even better than the bodies we have here; and for all eternity.

The verse for this evening is from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Paul confirms that not only will we get new bodies some day, but we, too, will have bodies like Christ. From Phil 3:20-21, we are told, “…our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” My encouragement this evening is for all of us to make sure that we do everything we can to take care of our earthly bodies as a tribute to God, the Creator. My prayer is that we may all have perfect bodies, like His, when we get to heaven. In the meantime, back to the job of getting this one into shape! Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
