#30DoT

By November 3, 2013August 30th, 2022Devotional

The last several days, Facebook and a number of other social media sites have been going crazy with people listing something on a daily basis that they are thankful for. Most of the announcements are listed in the fashion of tonight’s title – #30DoT. Today, being Nov. 3rd, is the third entry for most people who are participating and so far, people are mentioning things like their spouses, their children, their jobs, etc.

I guess this “30 days of thanks” is meant to lead up to Thanksgiving and all the things that we are grateful for. However, since Thanksgiving is on the 28th this year, I wonder how the math is going to work out on that. The first several days would seem to be easy – I can understand how people mention spouses, kids, jobs and many other things that come to mind and are easy to be thankful for. I have noticed that only a few people have mentioned God in their lists so far. I found this somewhat confusing. After all, it would seem to me that we owe God our thanks for sending His Son to the cross to die for our sins – and quite frankly, we enjoy all the other blessings we have to be thankful for because they are gifts to us from God.

Yes, God not only knows our needs, but also the desires of our heart and we know, from Psalm 139, that all the days of our lives are ordained for us even before we are born. Since God knows the number of hairs on our heads, it makes sense that He also knows everything else there is to know about us. Not only the good stuff, but also the things that we would rather not have revealed to anyone. This, as well as our hopes, dreams and aspirations – most, if not all, of which have been placed in our hearts by the Father Himself.

The bottom line here is that every day we should be thankful for God’s love of us and for sending His Son to die for our sins. Everything else flows from this fundamental truth. The verse for this evening is from 1Chr. 16:34-35, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Cry out, “Save us, O God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, that we may glory in your praise.” My encouragement this evening is that God desires for you to love Him and also wants to provide the best for each of His children. My prayer is that you will be thankful for the blessings that God has bestowed on you each and every day. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
