Autumn Leaves – Jesus Doesn’t…

By October 30, 2013August 30th, 2022Devotional

So I was driving down the street today and saw one of those catchy little quips on the brick sign in front of a church announcing the upcoming sermon. And that sign is the title of tonight’s post. Quite honestly, there isn’t too much more to say about it – it’s the truth. In view of the completeness of the message, I’m not going to write a thousand words this evening. In fact, I am going right to the verse for the evening.

We are told by the apostle Matthew, in chapter 20:18-20, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Now there are numerous verses in the Old Testament, especially in the book of Joshua, where God speaks to His people and lets them know that He will be with them. In fact, in Joshua 1:5, God speaks and He says to his young leader, the one who followed Moses, “No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” But the verse in Matthew gives us the assurance that this promise is not only from God the Father but also from His Son, Jesus.

My encouragement this evening is that you should know that God and His Son intend to be with you throughout all eternity. That is their commitment to you. My prayer is that you will find peace and solace in this promise of God. Because autumn leaves, but Jesus never will. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
