Back to Work…

By January 8, 2014August 30th, 2022Devotional

Today was the first day back to work for many people after the snowstorm that we had last weekend. The authorities asked businesses and schools to shut down Monday and Tuesday and it was amazing how many companies complied with the request. Today, temperatures warmed up a little and although the streets were still snow and ice covered, the city opened up again for business.

Most of the clients I work with have been closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day; and since Christmas was in the middle of the week this year, it has been since Dec. 23 or so since I have had to travel outside our own home to work on-site for any clients. And those clients I serve who are in the consumer electronics business are all out in Las Vegas at the Consumer Electronics Show so it has been somewhat quiet. Add to that the snowstorm and many of us in my line of work have been off a little longer than we would like.

I am sure that you can appreciate that I enjoyed getting out of the house and back to on-site work. Sure, I have been working at the house here, but it isn’t the same as an office environment and it was good to reconnect with co-workers in a real work setting. But you could tell that people just weren’t firing on all cylinders yet. It always takes a few days to get back up to speed and return from the holidays. It’s kind of the same thing that occurs after coming back from vacation. Especially as we begin the new year, it is important to remember that as Christians we all have the same boss – we work for the Lord.

It is up to us to be diligent and to make sure that we set a good example for others to follow. The verse for tonight reflects these thoughts. We are told, in Col. 3:23-24 (KJV), “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” My encouragement this evening is that God is your real boss and He expects you to do a great job representing Him. My prayer is that as we start 2014 you will dedicate yourself to honoring God and yourself by doing your work to the best of your ability, even if it does take a few days to get up to speed! Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
