International Day of the Bible

By November 19, 2015August 30th, 2022Devotional

Every so often, Christians have the opportunity to band together and study the Scripture in such a way as to flood the world with prayer and devotional study – working to spread the Good News of the Bible and help to lead more people to Christ. When I was considering going to Dallas Theological Seminary, I learned that there are so many DTS graduates that every minute of every day around the clock a DTS pastor is preaching the gospel in some area of the globe. I remember how impressed I was that Dallas has so many graduates that the world is literally never without someone from that institution talking about Jesus Christ.

Now the rest of us have a chance to participate in a similar mission. This year, Monday, November 23rd, is International Day of the Bible. The basic idea is that people are being asked to read the Bible at noon (local time) on Monday – to provide a continuous day of flooding the world with the great news of Jesus. There is actually a a plan to read for a full 10 days but the big event is on Monday. In this way, we can perhaps impact people who have never heard of Jesus as well as getting others more engaged in the event if it has been a while since they read the Word.

So what kind of a verse can we use to illustrate God’s desire for us to engage in something like this? Well, our verse for this evening is from Hab. 2:14, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” And the International Day of the Bible is just the way to get this started. My encouragement this evening is that  God wants us to study the Scripture and to do everything we can do to lead others to seek Him. My prayer is that you will participate on Monday by taking just a few minutes out of your day to read the Bible at noon, wherever you are. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
