The Miracle Birth…

By March 20, 2016August 30th, 2022Devotional

Last week, we were privileged to renew our friendship with many of the staff at the Greenbrier while, at the same time, making new acquaintances as well. It’s important to understand that Janet and I live our lives expecting miracles and every so often, we hear a story that really resonates with us – the goodness of God. Last week Janet was blessed to have someone share such a story with her!

One day, as Janet was being escorted to the spa, her attendant shared the story of her life and the difficulties, as well as the blessings, that she had experienced in the past. Apparently, “Debbie” had been married for years and she and her husband had two children. After the birth of her second child, a son, the couple decided that they should eliminate the chance of having any additions to the family. After a tubal ligation, Debbie’s marriage started to deteriorate and soon Debbie and her husband agreed to divorce.

Several years of sadness followed before she met and married a wonderful man with whom she now shares her life. Eventually, the desire to have a child with her new husband caused them to investigate a procedure to reverse the tubal ligation from years before. Due to scarring and a number of other factors, doctors determined that a reversal was possible, but at great financial expense to the family.

A date was determined for the start of treatment and several weeks before that day arrived, Debbie found out that she was pregnant – a true miracle. Nine months later, Debbie and her current husband welcomed a little baby boy into the world. It turns out that Noah, now 4 years old, is a special needs child. So not only was Debbie able to get pregnant without any medical intervention or cost, but God delivered them a child who needs very special care. As we all know, the parents of special needs children are very special themselves.

So, in this story, Debbie and her children survive a broken marriage, find joy in a new blended family, experience a God sized miracle and add another child of God to raise. It’s important to understand that God, in His infinite wisdom, already has a plan for each of us. Tonight’s verse is from the author of Hebrews, who tells us, in Hebrews 11:39-12:1, “God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Certainly Debbie and her family are running, and winning, the race that God has set before them. My encouragement tonight is that God wants each of us to persevere and accept the blessings that He bestows on us. My prayer is that you will actively pray bold prayers, petitioning God for the desires of your heart and then wait for God to boldly respond – all in accordance with His will. Have a great day in the Lord, grace and peace…
