Lately, several friends have been calling me and asking for advice. Not that this is out of the norm, but the intensity of the issues seems to be deeper than usual. Probably even more to the point this evening is the fact that I have a great deal going on with so many different projects and clients that I am orchestrating keeping all the balls up in the air. Planning trips and protocols and timing of training days and budgets for the new year are the norm for this time of year and the calls are coming in fast and furious. Of course, that is a happy problem – there are many folks who are struggling to find employment and dealing with other issues – some of them even dealing with health concerns. But it is all put into perspective when I get to witness an event like our family attended last evening – the fundraising event for Emily and her son, Eli. He’s the little boy who had the kidney transplant several weeks ago.
When I stand back and think about how much trust and faith it takes to stay the course and know, without doubt, that God is in your corner, it is remarkable. There are always those people who try to take things into their own hands and are foolish enough to think that they can control outcomes when in fact they can’t even control whether they will wake up the next morning. So it is very refreshing to see humility and how relationships strengthen and trust increases when people just trust in the Lord.
Some of my closest friends are humble and trusting in the Lord. In fact, they don’t allow anything to disturb their peace and they turn their problems over to God to handle. That is the way our heavenly Father wants things to work. And you know what? When I am around them, I feel better. There is something holy and right about surrounding yourself with people who are just good – not necessarily monetarily successful, but successful in kingdom values and the important traits that God desires in us. Those who have found this deep peace are committed to focusing on the Lord and not trying to take control – even of their own lives. They live their lives fully dedicated to serving the desires of the Father and His Son. Sometimes, commitment like that is a gift from God – who increases our faith when we ask for His help.
The verse for this evening is from Proverbs 30:5, “Every word of God is pure; He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.” My encouragement this evening is that God is trustworthy and wants you to turn your life over to Him. That means total trust that He knows what is right for you and in accordance with His will. My prayer is that you will humble yourself and encourage God to take charge of your life – keeping both eyes totally focused on what He has in store for you!
